Nationwide AT&T outage

Postby AC480 » Wed Nov 15, 2017 11:22 pm

AT&T users are unable to place calls, although it seems the data connection is still up. It began in some cities and is appearing to spread.
Technicians are working the problem....

It's been 14 months since they replaced the gateway and no problems. Now my Uverse has been in and out the last couple of days. The phone goes out, the led for phone on the gateway is turns red. Today I have been loosing internet connectivity off and on all day. :x

My local area just lost landline phone/Uverse service...which is nothing new. But when I reported the outage to the computer generated AT&T representative, "she" told me it would be fixed by Tuesday the 28th...geeeeze.

My Wilson-boosted-Verizon wireless service works just fine...

Back when you were having all the trouble about the same time you got yours straightened out I noticed mine started cutting up. Both Wi-fi and data network. I just did a speedtest, and it was a rock solid 6.75 Mb down. I supposed to have 6, but it has always been around 6.75. Upload is is supposed to be .5. It used to be. But When I did it this time on Uverse Wi-fi, and remember back in September, it would download at 6.75, then upload at 20 and sometimes 30Mb for about a second, then started sloping off to 0 about halfway through and stay there.
I have a theory....

It is downloading packets of random data from the server. Then to upload, it takes those same packets and sends them back to the server. I downloaded at a steady rate of 6.75Mbps. When it started to upload, it jumped up to 30+, then started dropping off. By the time it dropped to zero, there was nothing left to send. The ISP is supposed to throttle your speed at what speed you purchased, and what speed maintains a stable connection. I think the upload throttle is broken.

Since the last update, you can go to the results tab and see history.

A plausible theory...I think. If you upload a file or image, does the speed seem faster than 0.35...?

The upload bar was showing stable & steady progress when I uploaded those screenshots. With the phone going out and then the internet cutting out and coming back on and working fine without me doing anything, they must have been working on it. If I had been at work, I probably would have never known it.
