On A More Pleasant Note...

Postby CEO1 » Thu Sep 21, 2017 12:36 am

Had a "no cool" today on this Ruud unit I installed some 15 years ago...

After checking a little found the breaker was tripped and had that "sinking feeling" fearing it was gonna' be the compressor. Started out checking for ground faults and got lowish numbers on the contactor connections...

But after disconnecting and checking the compressor leads, the numbers looked much better. Went back to the contactor and got the lowish numbers again...WTF? I ended up removing all the factory wires from the contactor and still got the low readings.

I started checking the high voltage service and finally looked close at the whip where it entered the unit, and there was the problem. :)

Really made my day...I even had a new store-bought whip in the truck and replaced the old one with it. Lot faster than trying to pull new wire through that old flex conduit.
